Physical therapy or physiotherapy (sometimes abbreviated to PT or physio) is a health care profession primarily concerned with the remediation of impairments and disabilities and the promotion of mobility, functional ability, quality of life and movement potential through examination, evaluation, diagnosis and physical intervention carried out by physical therapists (known as physiotherapists in most countries) and physical therapist assistants (known as physical rehabilitation therapists or physiotherapy assistants in some countries).
In addition to clinical practice, other activities encompassed in the physical therapy profession include research, education, consultation, and administration.
Exercise is good for health. An extensively well known fact, so why leave it when you are pregnant. This point was itching in my mind for a long time which inspired me to start this Antenatal and Postnatal program in Anuradha maternity centre in June ,2000 under the guidance of Dr. Rukmani Sourirajan and Dr. Anitha Parthasarathy.
Pregnancy is a period where both physiological and psychological changes occur in the body. Handling this confusion is becoming increasingly hard for the woman of today, juggling work and her nuclear family. Resorting to Internet and Books, which gives too much generic information can leave them more confused rather than enlightened.
All these factors initiated us to start this program through which we help the ladies to reduce their anxiety, stress and pains, thus making them enjoy their pregnancy in a better manner.
Exercise not only keeps our ladies healthy during pregnancy, it aids them in getting back their shape faster after it.
We render such exercise in 3 sets of Antenatal classes,
We have separate classes for husbands who wish to attend their wife's labor. As we have found that when lady in labor has someone who can motivate her during labor, make her feel at ease, help her overcome her fear ,can have an easy labor.Especially if the person is her husband. From then onwards we have started encouraging the husband to share the precious moment of their baby being born with their wife.Husbands are taught about the stages of labor, what is expected from them in the labor room and how they can encourage their wife to have a fast and relaxed labor.
As we promised earlier that complete care will be given, doesn't end once the lady delivers,it covers even after her delivery.Post natal exercices are given to tone up their muscles, thus helping her to avoid back pain, knee pain, lose tummyand increase her breast feed.this is two class session.
We don't leave any stone unturned,we try to bring all the comfort near to our patients,we have a fitness trainer available in our hospital who will help our ladies to shed down their weight gradually after 6 weeks of their delivery.
